Notes for Article V Call 2/16 We had Bill Walker, co-founder of FOAVC.org, join us to discuss the current federal criminal complaint before Attorney General Holder. The complaint is concerned with the state applications for a convention call, and why members of Congress are violating federal laws in not issuing the call. We then had open discussion from various InterOccupy members from around the country: Rhode Island, Maryland, Florida, Texas, Oregon, Washington, California, and Hawaii. Consensus is that we will continue to use the Thursday night call for education and outreach until that time where a formal strategy is defined and adopted. Links discussed: http://www.foavc.org http://www.articlevconvention.org

Notes from Arts Call Planning Session 2/16/12: Gan: Subject of next week’s call is “Artists as Bridges” – artists playing a unique role in creating bridges between several social movements and the Occupy movement – more specifically, who is the 99% – migrant workers, immigrants, how the economy is destroying the environment. Wants to bring key powerhouse speakers who have been working on those connecting spaces with their artwork; to have a lead presenter for the main group and maybe a second presenter for the breakouts. He listed the people he’s got so far. The focus on something that’s currently creating a connection between Occupy and a pre-existing social issue. Janelle: Is it the movement or the communities? Gan: It’s on a case by case basis – to have 5 hook speakers in the main group and then have other people doing that kind of work as well in the breakout groups to get into greater depth. Someone actively engaged in a project actively pulling in people that is both Occupy and this other issue. Ex: Faviana – merging Occupy artwork posters with immigrants’ rights – her audience is both immigrants’ rights and Occupy. The 5 [...]

Occupy Delaware maintains an encampment in the center of downtown Wilmington, Delaware in Spencer Plaza, a high visibility location surrounded by the offices of the federal, state, county, and city governments and banking centers of Chase, Bank of America and Barclays. It has been camping continuously in the plaza since early November. With the help of the ACLU, it secured its right to remain in the Plaza by taking its case to Chancery Court, where the judge issued a restraining order against the City of Wilmington on behalf of the occupiers. In an effort to avoid a court case involving First Amendment freedom of speech issues that it mostly likely would have lost, the City offered the protesters a deal, which in effect gives Occupy Delaware the right to remain as an encampment in Spencer Plaza as long as it chooses. Presently there is more space in Spencer Plaza than there are campers. Given the recent wave of Occupy evictions in less accommodating cities, there currently are more persons wanting to “occupy” than there are encampments. As a gesture of solidarity, Occupy Delaware invites evicted occupiers to set up camp in Spencer Plaza, while we all prepare for the American [...]
