Worldwide Candlelight Vigil to Unite Movements for a Better World

MLK, Jr. Day, January 15, 7pm in every time zone globally! 

 

On his birthday and in the spirit of Dr. King’s vision for racial and economic equality, peace, and non-violence, we are holding candlelight vigils at 7pm in each time zone to unite our world in a global movement for systemic change.

On January 15, wherever we may be, whether in our homes, in city squares, online, Occupies, places of worship, or at work, we lift a beautiful message high above the political dialogue. We light the dream of a more equitable world in our hearts. We can overcome!

Dr. King said, “A true revolution of values will soon look uneasily on the glaring contrast of poverty and wealth. With righteous indignation, it will look across the seas… and say: “This is not just.”

We gather to empower a great and global dream, a dream we have all dreamt of for thousands of years. We will sing, because “freedom songs are the soul of the movement.” Together, we will make the dream a reality.

WHAT TO DO?!

Everybody: this is happening already all over the world! We engage, wherever we are, simply acknowledging the moment with the rest of the world for the purposes of uniting for change. Big or small actions, whether on street corners, online, places of worship, city squares, at our performances or work, on TV or the tundra, with children or adults. Be creative.

There’s a vigil in the works already in New Orleans on the Moonwalk. We expect word of vigils in Berlin, Singapore, Karachi, Sydney and more soon. Tell us where, when, what you’re doing. We want to promote everything we’re doing to raise this chorus. While we’re doing events throughout local communities worldwide and simultaneously crashing twitter with #j15 tweets.

Think BIG by doing small: it’s all in the unified message. Don’t imagine children in Jerusalem and Sao Paolo singing a song of hope together at 7pm. Make it happen. #J15

FIRST: • Share the facebook page and tweet it and set the thumbnail as your profile pic. (to do this, upload the thumbnail to your FB photos, and then set it as profile pic!)• Send the email to everyone you know directly• Sign the petition, write why and what you are doing in the comments and on FB

SECOND:• Come up with one thing, small or big, decide to do it, and make it happen• Let everyone know about it in your community and amongst your friends, family• Share it with everyone else on the FB page and via twitter• Document what you’re doing in photos, videos, and sound and share it online• Share this with your local media.

THIRD: Have a blast, and let everyone know what you know! Only WE have the answers, not anyone of us. We’re setting something in motion that will keep going long after #J15. This is the dream we’ve all waited for. We’re aiming at 100%!
