Report on NDAA from ? Shahid
Obama has said he will not use the law to detain US citizens although the law does allow it so future administrations could. Organization is in process of drafting a resolution against it that can be used as a model. Voters in Montana have started a recall effort of their Senator in regards to their support of it. Bills introduced in house & senate that would roll back the detention provisions of NDAA. Speaker encourages approaching local councils about these issues. Report on Occupy Congress from Daniel
Occupy Congress is a lot of random people through the US that are organizing through a listserv and working groups. Event is January 17th. E-mails have been sent to all occupations in the US and a call to action to have them come to the national mall in congress (open mic, general assemblies, etc.) Contact: occupycongressj17@gmail.com

Concern from facilitator on planning on Facebook/Twitter of events that are planned a while in advance — suggests a website (wordpress, etc) should be made in addition as Facebook movements can be lost in the news feed after a few days.

Report on foreclosure defenses

  • Two groups in Portland are working on forceclosure defense issues. On December 6th there was a foreclosure defense action in Portland. (Unsettled Portland and We Are Oregon.)
  • From Thomas (Youngstown): Most of defenses are eviction defenses and they don’t help people more than 30 days, and have turned into eventual evictions. Wants to get involved earlier in the process in these cases. Lawyers lined up wanting to do probono work.
