Nancy Carpenter – Charlottesville – had a 1/15 candlelight vigil at Free Speech Wall. 30 people sang songs and read speeches. Talked about peace and nonviolence
Chris – reporting for several Occupies in MI. Marched on Gov. Rick Schneider ‘s house. He’s responsible for the EFM Act. (Dissolves power of all elected officials). Over 1000 people involved.
Kasha Baxter and James Lattimore – Occupy Asheville didn’t sponsor MLK day but attended one, 1000 people there at event.
Kenneth Logan – Canada. No big celebration, but did share a few quotes: ”Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.” – MLK
Rosendo Rodriguez – Occupy Fresno joined a march. Pointed out that MLK and Occupy have a lot in common. Good outreach moments.

Jim O’Brien – not affiliated with any one Occupy. Can find him on OccupyTogether.org. Suggestion for May 1st – consider day of complete economic shutdown. Take day off unpaid, stay at home, spend no money for entire day.

Lorenzo Christoff (sp?) – Rally in Sacramento this Sat the 21st to end corporate rule. He’s with Occupy Davis, but they’re teaming up with Common Cause and other national activist groups to overturn corporate personhood and money as speech. Lorenzo – Today there was initial conference call of group collaboration between environmental groups and CA Occupies. Organizing to get critical mass for focused environmental actions, specifically CA focused. If you want to be involved in this working group, get in touch. Handbook for all colleges re: teach-ins. occupations, people to talk to, etc. Also a UC Regents meeting tomorrow, 1/17, People are going to Riverside to have presence for UC Regents – 1%ers, for sure! Petition being created in addition to the handbook. Sunday 3pm Pacific time is the next call.

Chris – One other thing, wants to mention re: Occupy Austin, around New Years, there was an incident of police brutality with a young lady/DUI. A young man, Antonio Bueller, an Army Ranger and 3 time Iraqi war veteran, tried to film, was arrested. In court soon. Encourages everyone to check this out. Occupy Kalamazoo is calling by phone in solidarity with Austin for 1st Amendment rights
