Notes from 2/9/12: Foreclosures

  1. Reports from Occupy Houston
  1. Amy from Burke (806-609-3005): doesn’t know much about foreclosures but is willing to learn and can pass on info to others. Suggests think less legally and more about direct action, suggests look at 1930s movement. Possibly a right of redemption?
  2. Erica did research about foreclosed houses, HAR.com –  Scroll down to “Find  Home”, (blue strip) look for Foreclosures.  Or BETTER do a “find” (Control F) , foreclosure.  Next screen enter Zip code. Also Realtytrac.com. These show houses that have lready been foreclosed on. OccupyOUrHomes.org has info on how to find foreclosures in process
  3. Erica suggests having more than one person to be client liaison, so that we can function better if key person is missing from mtg
  1. Samuel (tactics)

.      Erica suggests contacting Giselda finding out results of her last meeting with him

  1. Amy suggests negotiate with Fannie Mae first,
  2. Folko suggests use tenants rights tactics
  1. Strategy

.      Erica wants to investigate other families to help in neighborhoods that are closer to town and have a neighborhood cohesion, if possible

  1. Erica mentions Linwood Johnson, suggests talking to him first about our interest
  2. Erica mentions reporting back to GA and not seeing much interest. Also that Obama is pushing bill to give $2000 to foreclosed homeowners. (Settlement for banks). Michael discusses settlement, how it’s not in proportion to damage done, that it’s second bailout.
  3. Amy has opinion that we might not have enough bodies for a physical occupation
  4. Amy suggests plan for Samuel: no legal options for keeping house (note-based) since foreclosure is already done. We don’t want to do lots of neighborhood stuff bc we don’t want to concentrate in the Mission Bend area. So, concentrate on media and banks, and take what we learn from doing that into a neighborhood-based campaign where we will do canvassing. General agreement.
