Is the U.S. justice system about justice, or the law? Activists from the Occupy movement to climate justice camps are regularly made examples of by the courts for acts of civil disobedience, while bank and oil company executives avoid prosecution for real crimes.
This inconvenient truth is illustrated all too well by the case of climate activist Tim DeChristopher, who’s serving two years for an act of civil disobedience, as detailed in his conversation with Terry Tempest Williams in the new issue of Orion, “What Love Looks Like.”
Please plan to join a dialogue with Heidi Boghosian, director of the National Lawyers Guild and author of The Policing of Political Speech and Punishing Dissent, on February 21st at 7 PM Eastern, 4 PM Pacific.
What would our society look like if justice meant far more than law? How can we get to a place where ethics matter, and what are some strategies for navigating the current system? Hear Boghosian, DeChristopher’s lawyer, Patrick Shea, and others discuss and expand on these thoughts during this live web event.
The event is free but registration is required. Read more and register here.
This will be a web presentation with our usual phone format, in which you will hear from the guests, see a slide show of images, and then get to ask your questions and share your thoughts.
Please forward this invitation on to your friends, contacts, lists, networks, Facebook friends, and colleagues. We can all benefit from exchanges like this.
Hope you can join us for this unique event!
