Protocol for Requesting an IO Supported “Maestro” Conference Call

InterOccupy (IO) provides an infrastructure by which individual occupations can communicate GA to GA, working group to working group and occupier to occupier at a national level.

  • IO conference calls and forums (web sites) allow for information sharing, networking, discovering shared interest, and making valuable connections.
  • No illegal activities should be discussed on InterOccupy calls, Google groups or forums. However, Non Violent-Civil Disobedience subjects can be covered on IO calls and forums.
  • InterOccupy is not “organizing” national working groups or intending to speak for Occupy nationally.
  • IO does recognize that our conference calls give occupiers the opportunity to self organize for continued communication and cooperative work.

How to Request a Call

Requests should be made at least a week in advance of the call.  We do our best to respond to Emergency call requests on short notice.

Please fill out the following form to submit your call request:

*Disclaimer:  We may not be able to accommodate all requests.
IO has limited availability and capacity and can therefore only initiate a limited number of new calls over time.  We will do our best to get back to you as soon as possible, and in the meantime your patience is greatly appreciated.

Process Facilitation and Maestro Tech Orchestration

Requested Calls will be scheduled once the necessary information, facilitator, backup facilitator and tech supporter are clearly identified on the Request Form.

If the group chooses to create a google group (email list) connected to the call, facilitators are responsible for monitoring the group emails once they have been created.

InterOccupy can help create the Agenda/Notes document, promote the call, help facilitate and provide technical support if you need it (within our limited capacity).

If it becomes a recurring call we ask that your G.A. or working group get several people trained to use Maestro and then provide call facilitation and Maestro tech point people for each call thereafter.  Maestro trainings are free and available on a weekly basis (see below).

Requirements for recurring calls:

  1. Groups must identify a facilitator and Maestro tech supporter for their calls.
  2. We encourage developing several / many Maestro Tech supporters and there are resources for that training listed below.
  3. Again, should the group choose to create one or more google groups (email lists), the call Host should monitor the email traffic as long as the list is used. We have found that some light moderation is sometimes required to keep such lists true to their purpose.
  4. Call hosts are encouraged to use the shared Agenda / Notes google document to take notes.  Any other notes (breakout groups) can be sent to [to info@interoccupy.org] in a timely fashion should they need to be posted on InterOccupy.org
  5. The link for the call should be posted as far ahead of the date as possible and at a minimum 48 hours before the call is scheduled to occur.

In addition, Maestro has good resources on their site that will help you get up to speed, especially for a smaller and fairly straightforward call.  We suggest watching the videos on “quick start,” using the conductor’s interface and basic breakout groups, and practicing on the simulator.   These resources can be found here:
