Ethnic Studies Faces Nationwide Threat Call

PURPOSE: An Arizona administrator has ruled that the public school district in Tucson must end its acclaimed Mexican American Studies program for grades K-12, saying it “violates a new state law that bans the teaching of any class designed for a particular ethnic group or that “promote[s] resentment toward a race or class of people.” Copycat laws are likely to follow in other states as part of a growing campaign against ethnic studies programs, in particular Chicano studies, throughout the country.
The Tucson ethnic studies program, which serves 1,500 primarily Mexican students, is an interdisciplinary curriculum that focuses on contributions made by Mexican Americans, African Americans and Native Americans in literature, history and science.

we’re indoctrinated on the “ENTIRETY of America’s Heritage” every day – through tv, movies, music, newspapers, money, historical landmarks, popular culture, and so on. It’s unfortunate but without Ethnic Studies the “part” of our history that documents oppression and exploitation will just be buried again – TUSD isn’t about to break out Howard Zinn for their curriculum, either. They want the Pilgrim-friendly version of history to be taught to all the little boys and girls, so they know that white people are at the very least well-intended. Now that’s troubling. According to this law, no history can be taught. Every person is in a race or is ethnic.. this is a very, very peculiar law…
