Winning Hearts and Minds: The Internal Process Call
FOR WHO: Open to any committee members or Working Group members from any Occupation or General Assembly
PURPOSE: This is a call to explore ways for committees/working groups to empower themselves to become more focused and functional to effectively communicate the Occupy message to the public. The essence of this call is to find out ways to win hearts and minds to our cause so we can move forward with resolving our country’s problems.

To help us all align our ACTIONS in the same direction, it would help for us to establish a SHARED SENSE OF THE CONTEXT WITHIN WHICH WE ARE (will be) acting. By CONTEXT I mean PURPOSE, VISION, CURRENT REALITY.
It has been said that “The key to STRATEGY is CONTEXT” so, by clarifying our shared sense of PURPOSE, VISION and CURRENT REALITY, we create the key to developing a SHARED STRATEGY (namely GENERAL GOALS, SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES and ACTION PLANS.
And this all leads to coordinated ACTION. So we need to establish the CONTEXT (shared purpose, vision, and sense of current reality) for our ACTIONS. And we then need to establish a shared STRATEGY (goals, objectives and action plans) to guide our ACTIONS. By doing this our separate, individual ACTIONS take on much greater power than acting separately.

In summary, I would like to see us expand our view of why and how our actions will increase the effectiveness of our acting TOGETHER — including a shared view of our CONTEXT (purpose, vision, and current reality) and shared STRATEGY(general goals, specific objectives, and action plans).
As I see it, our PURPOSE involves engaging the hearts and minds of people around the world. Then we need to clarify: 1] our VISION of effectiveness in doing that and our sense of the CURRENT REALITY within which we are functioning (e.g. the different motives of the 1% and the 99%) and 2] our STRATEGY for serving our purpose (including general goals, specific objectives, and action plans–what, who and when).
