Notes:

getting a report back from occupiers in oakland what happened.
plan what our response will be today.

cal – report back. on police side of it watching it since initial march.

gemma – (deal with jail and legal support in OO) calling from jail. 300 arrestees, they are being processed out, several injured by rubber bullets and tear gas.

what was the timeline?
- rally at 12p, march to a building that was going to be occupied – 1 to 2k in march, as people approached the building police charged on crowd with tear gas, children wer in march, rubber bullets, played cat and mouse for several hours, another march later in the afternoon was kettled (12th and telegraph) another march around 4:30p – police crashed on the crowd, severely beat arrested and shot with rubber bullets.

cal – trying to get spencer who was one of the livestreamers on the call. some more groups circled around the first building, police had lines to prevent them. police tear gassed and shot rubber bullets. cops told him to be inside or outside of this. what i’m unclear about is what level of provocation we were at. OO has not been able to pass a non violent resolution. 6 times tried. only 31% has voted. they have not been able to align themselves. internal violence. violence is very much a part of what’s going on here. today is a music festival, trying to decide when is the GA.

4pm pacific would be a better time for this call, get more OO people on the call.

idea for call is to find solidarity actions.

gemma – clarify, regardless of diversity of tactics/violence, very clear from beginning, biggest perps of violence are police. they are determined to shut OO down by any means necessary.

kelly – O Nova Scotia, reports of hospitalizations, ICU?
gemma – doesn;t know about ICU, several have gone to hospital, several in jail who were being shuttled to ER, one was hit in ear by rub bullet and cannot hear. woman’s arms are purple from hand ties. several photos of bad bruises including children.

alex – YMCA. was that a break in?

gemma – the door was open. not a break in.

pictures of children – with occupy legal, there is a class action against OPD. 2003 there were actions that made it illegal for OPD to use nonlethal weapons.

Occupy W Michigan – is there going to be a repository of photos from the clash?

gemma – the da has repeatedly told us that they are reviewing all pix, fb posts, tweets and youtubes of various incidents, that’s how they are coming up with evidence. we are asking people not to post photos. people need to give permission to have their photos posted. police are using it to charge people on bogus “crimes”.

OPD 2003 court order – they have ben ignoring it, photo injuries will eb brought to courts. courts said they would take it over if it happened one more time.

COORDINATION

actions planned for today:

mceldon square, folks on a bus from san diego. rally at the square, march on city hall

katie – occupy dc, no specifics, ga at 6p in mcpherson square, possibly semi-eviction, cant march because we can;t leave the camp unattended. messaging to bring back to group.

zak –  NYC, we met last night, coordinating national response, this is what OO intending to do, this was OPD’s response, showing capable of national effort on short, responsive time frame, come out and show support for oakland, keep it as simple as possible, rallies, mic checks and marches. nyc this is occupywallst.org, nycga.net. nyc is meeting in Washing Square park, Boston – Copley Square 7pm, Philly @ Love square.

Alice – Occupy Marines, veterans and current soldiers. would like to get info out on our fb page, we’re trying to get vets out all over the country. black bloc are a concern for vets, standing out as a buffer between police and people.  we will be trying to get as many military people as possible.

zak – point of process – please use this call about convergence points and times that have been agreed upon. if anyone on this call is able to go through their DA and GA to build consensus to support this call please email

Occupy Dallas- 6 p.m. central JFK memorial – candle light vigil all will be wearing black odresponse@yahoo.com

Chicago – 7pm solidarity jackson and la salle, oakland 4pm pst justice center city hall

gemma – has to run, add one thing, thank you all for doing this, will report back to everyone, we really need material support, low bail fund, under constant police repression, they pick up people every day, giving people warrants and they don’t know. please help us materially. we are sending out an email with wepay account just for bail fund. hope other occupies will put this on their websites. email –

cal – going to facilitation group meeting to find out ga time. can there be another national call to have oakland people on the call. 5pm PST, may be another call.

DISCUSSION (actions and messaging)

jackrabbit – OWS – suggest there is a coordinated message that can be sent to press nationally. people on the call who could put it together, work together to craft release.

schlomo – wants to be involved in messaging.

boston and ows – crafted call to action, interested in joint pr, have language already,

anyone want to help press #3 now. 13 people want to help. email address will be sent jackrabbit.

john – how aware is occupy of global actions happening. oakland is the latest happening. other countries are in all out revolt against AFTA.

this is a broader conversation, this call is about the actions today and messaging. solidarity could be for oakland and syria.

alex – coordinated methods for press release, we are taking a beating in the news. media only shows negative images. police information officer statement last night. lies. we get pr going.

brian – indianapolis – occupy nomads, occupy indianapolis.us…..oakland solidarity march at 6p at Super Bowl village, Indianapolis, IN. March will begin on steps of Indiana State house. Events will continue all week, of course. OCCUPY THE SUPER BOWL! Marched through the village in protest of Indiana’s push for right-to-work legislation yesterday. It’s an orgy of 1%-sponsored wealth. http://www.facebook.com/OccupyIndianapolisUS

cliff – important that messaging include acknowledgment of violence on both sides. if we ignore that it will damage credibility. confront the factthat violence was coming from both sides.

sandy – we need to be careful how we address that. read the call they put out on their website. we need to make sure that all language is positive, rather than create room to suggest that we are internally divided.

eric – themes that involved around importance of issues that occupy is alerting country too, plus 1st amend rights. will we involve them in Press release.

Please give info re ACTA call tomorrow – see http://tinyurl.com/7ofy7q4 for Common Dreams article on ACTA

Occupy Merced – Solidarity

smaller occupy – GA yesterday, couldn’t get a GA together, has anyone have an idea/suggestion for smaller occupations can do.

eli – we have a smaller GA – as individuals we decided (lost)

Occupy Dallas – provision for emergencies, we get together with 4 or 5 other people and do the event

can someone explain to me what the fuck the police march was? was that black bloc?

janet – direct esponse, there a lot of different groupings within OO, not clear which group is responsible for what. fuck the police grouping, some people were part of organizing, some of them support diversity of tactics. challenging to other OO folks that are for non-violence. its complex, its hard to know who is responsible for what yesterday.

JR – we might have a page for InterOccupy.org, clearing house related to thiese actions, press release.

eli – hit up 40 or 50 members on facebook, put it on our group pages and let them know that we are going to be there. meeting at our park at 7pm

lee – reiterate, people can send money, clothing, food. we’re hungry! thanks!

todd – to answer question about f the police march, in LA we don;t support blakc bloc activities, the fuck the police march was in response to police brutality.

LA – macarthur park at 5pm pst, solidarity march

understand why people are frustrated, really believe that peaceful response is the only way, they have all the guns, they have their fingers on all the triggers.

janet – speaking for myself in OO, peaceful orientation, that is something, there are people in OO who want a non violent policy, they have not been successful in passing. diversity of tactics turn people away. IMO.

Thank you all. Good conversation. Questions about messaging. IO – interesting to see our ability to get a call together quickly.
