Suggestions for Breakout Groups
1- ending corporate personhood
4- campaign finance reform / citizen united
3- how to engage the full 99% – winners
2- tentless occupations + strategy from engaging cohesiveness. – winners
- for the Port shutdown – winners
- for healthcare for the 99%
- for conflict resolution
- to engage with outreach to the 1% to engage in social projects.
- suggesting mass action against SR 1867 – national defense act. – winners
- (mine not suggested – making it throught the winter and getting support from the national level for small and struggling occupations)
5 subjects in breakout
2 – how to engage the full 99%
1 – tentless occupations + strategy from engaging cohesiveness.
3 – for the Port shutdown
4 – for conflict resolution
5 – suggesting mass action against SR 1867 – national defense act.
opening – 2 to 3 minutes for how each occupation is addressing the issue.
I chose engaging the full 99%.
suggestion to create radio program to educate people.
Jerermy – Is it direct action or mass communication issues. – MSM will potray in most cartoonish light. Important to target not just politicians but corporations as well… define targets for direct action.
Alex – I think both are critical…
Mark – Focusing on Outreach processes… should how, who, what tactics are being.
Jeremy has direct outreach with many forms of outreach. but exact tactics and strategires are still unclear. One thing that has worked is enganging existing organizations.
Tobin – Direct response, has been spending time setting up mini-occupations around Athens to do direct dialoque and community outreach. people have heard of occupy, have sympathy and people don’t know what it is about. direct communication is more powerful than mass communication.
Engaging the 99% – In order to reach the 99%, we need to focus on core non-partisan issues. Such issues, such as those outlined in the Declaration of the 99%, focus on key issues that victimize everyone in 99% through a structure of systematic corruption regardless of politcal persuasion. as opposed to sticking to partisan left or right issues. We need to engage both direct action and mass communication doing large positive actions. Campaign type canvasing and direct action is needed that is coordinated on a national level to make sure entire communites get the true message of the movement to offset the biased, ignorant, and slanderous reporting that appears in the Mainstream Media.
December 12th will be national occupy the port / transportation infrastructure day.
will be a national push to repeal sr 1867.
Many are looking at the evictions as an opportunity to regroup indoors and plan for the spring.

D. merchandise- spreads message, raises funds, expresses creativity
uniting with other movements, groups and organizationsalso mentioned was ethos and thrive. I was unable to locate ethos as there were many ethos facebooks pages, I was able to join a open group, ”thrive” on facebook

BREAK OUT GROUP – Engaging the 99%
Meet Your Neighbor idea:
Individual people do something for your neighbor. Ask for 1$. If 750,000 to 100,000 doing this every week could raise a lot of money.
Discussion of perhaps not asking for money. But doing large actions as a positive force for the community.
Lots of discussion of strategy of reaching out to neighbor.
Suggestion involving purple wrist bands.
Teach In: When reaching out to a community…. What if we started to do teach in’s for children. Help the children you are helping the parents. 15 and below.
Ronnie, Tim
Matt asked: What can we do in our town of 16,000 people with 80 people to reach out to 16,000?
Take out 80 people out. Do a Santa Claus March through neighborhoods. Pass out gifts. Pass out literature.
Get in the streets. Get out and talk to people.

BREAKOUT GROUP: TENTLESS OCCUPATIONS
Inga: Pittsburgh (note taker)
Catherine & Haley: Occupy Now (Texas)
Robin: Davis, Ca
Josh: This week in Occupy
JC: Occupy Phoenix
Mark: Philly
Ambrose and Annie: OWS
We had a HUGE issue with facilitation and organizing the group. The girls from Occupy Now tried to use our room as a promotion vehicle (it took up way too much time).
Difficulty determining what the topic was or is. Texas wants to discuss Port action.
Robin agreed to facilitate:
Determined that is was:
How to maintain Cohesion within each Occupy geographic location.
Each person reported on the status of their group:
Philly is mirroring NYCGA.org in light of the recent eviction.
Philly is relying on the virtual aspect post-eviction but there is still a meeting hall for GA’s.
Davis (not UC Davis which is where the pepper-spray thing was), has shifted over to the campus which is making the movement smaller. They need to start planning for a time when there will not be an encampment. What is next is a critical question.
Pittsburgh is secure and building yurts and mess halls….planning to winterize and create a place.
Challenge Off-site versus On-site Occupier issues.
Phoenix and Pittsburgh both having off-site versus on-site issues at their encampments. General consensus is “if you’re not on the ground you’re not doing anything of value.”

National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) / S. 1867
Educational Materials Needed
We need educational materials so people understand the bill and what the issue are. Because the bill can easily be misinterpreted, it would benefit us to have the bill analyzed. There are ways to discern what the congressional intent is, perhaps there is a group already doing this. Is it possible to look into who might be analyzing/researching the bill so that we can work in conjunction with them?
No Miranda rights for people being detained?
661 billion dollars in additional military spending
National Day of Action
Minimum of where we can start is get the support of our own GA’s in opposing the bill.
Imperative that we do something effective that will directly address the Senators as well as utilize symbolism. This is a very real thing and it is extremely dangerous. The fact that it passed 93-7 shows they could care less about the American people.
Should we try to protest NDAA on the international day of human rights, December 14th?. If you want to do it by this day which may be too soon, consider reaching out to your occupation and try to get people there talking about it.
There is a powerful picture of people protesting in orange jumpsuits and face masks. Will forward pic, maybe that is something we can utilize.
Seeing that there has been a media blackout, consider utilizing social media to raise awareness about the bill. At least get #NDAA trending on Twitter.
Outreach to other organizations
It seems impossible that other organizations are not doing exactly what we are doing now. Can we combine efforts for a National Day of Action? The website with the petition came from an organization called Demand Progress.
Presidential Veto?
Considering that the Obama administration already has the authority to kill U.S. citizens and has utilized it, this lack of disclosure is extremely scary considering that they can be detained and killed without charge or trial.
Obama administration is saying they will veto the bill because it takes the power out of the executive offices to detain citizens, not because it is unconstitutional.
Questions raised as to whether a presidential veto would work considering that Senate passed the bill 93-7. (His veto could be overridden with 2/3 house vote.)
The bill that passed one of the houses possibly does not have the resolutions that are frightening (1031 – 1047). These bills will have to be combined and then presented. When does the revised bill become public?
We are extremely alarmed considering what the government would be allowed to do to U.S. citizens and this would be comparable to an American Guantanamo.

**Could the Senators who voted this bill into law be guilty of treason?**
